Nakabibinging Katahimikan
October 22, 2007
Everything ends when we draw the line
October 17, 2007
This is not a catch phrase from a womens help desk show in QTV11 Harharhar. I actually felt using this line to well, draw the line so to speak. I happen to be out of town to attend an event in the far far land somewhere in the Western Visayas region, not to mention I think they have the worst airport service ever (Hmm… maybe the details I can write separately sometime, that should be interesting too). I am sorry to say but first impressions last in my case.
Anyways, the story actually lift-off from the interiors of the plane, a flight back to Manila. I happen to take the business class seat, another one of my ‘first’ moments. As I entered the plane, I suddenly noticed two things: The cordial welcome of the lovely fight attendants were way too cordial than the usual flight I had back in the economy class. Secondly, as I was taking my comfy seat and catching my breathe, the well-mannered attendants were at it again, extra caring. (Would you like to read a newspaper sir? Can I get you anything sir? Water or juice?). I was actually pissed off. Good thing they look good and pleasant. So, they were spared from my wrath. All of these happened while the plane was still on the ground. Yikes! What more if we were up there? Well, I don’t see it as a problem though. In fact, I felt pampered. I am thankful but mindful at the same time. I guess they were just doing their job.
In flight, I manage to get a view of the business class area. We were 7 to 8 people there. On the other end of the corridor, the ambiance was different. It was my first to actually see the whole economy class in front of all the seated passengers. It was crowded or rather all seats taken from where I stand. I even saw this kid (who was in the same line as I am during ticketing) staring at me as if he was saying “Huh? This guy’s either rich or lucky.” Well actually, the latter applies hahaha. I told ya this blog should have a prequel.
The realization just popped-in. Life is different from where I stand and from where the kid along with the rest of those people in the economy class. Ironically, we were on the same plane. It is as if I won’t share the same fate as they do when something bad happens to the plane. So its true then, its never fair even up there hahaha.
Seriously, its everywhere. The gap between the haves and the have nots is widening every single moment. I don’t need to get technical as to how many to be exact. But one thing I do know is that I feel it. Every ounce and every inch of it. It makes me wonder how come most people don’t seem to recognize it or do they care in the first place?
When I say everything ends when we draw the line. I mean civilizations, throughout history, cease to exist due to the widening gap of this seemingly endless dualism–the rich vs. the poor, the powerful vs. the dis empowered. The mighty vs. the weak. It was never an ‘and’ but always a ‘versus’. It’s a war. Its a pity as well, that the more learned people become, the more they become alienated to the needs of the many who actually belong to the lower brackets in society. It won’t be a wonder if things get all wind up and confusing after all. It’s just a matter of time before some wealthy nation throw nuclear bombs to poor nations where they actually get most of their raw materials for sustenance and luxuries in life. There are more facets to this complicated strata that I won’t be able to address in one sitting especially in this realization.
As for solutions, if you ask me, I would say change this system. This rotten and often times bloody system. How to go about it? Well, its a matter of consensus and giving. How much of ourselves are we willing to give to make this world a better place. Given the scenario, maybe this world is not worth investing. Maybe we should invest on esoteric pursuits instead, the after life. Collect heavenly treasures or something to that effect.
I wish to see the future free of conflict and all people, enlightened. Then maybe, the efforts of this generation and the previous generations, for a better world, shall forever be at the anals of human history.
Going back to my business class experience, I kinda enjoy the view from the top. Darn! I forgot that gorgeous attendant’s name. Women are just simply my weakness.
Sixto Roxas: Truly, with age comes wisdom and more
October 2, 2007
I just had a somewhat memorable forum/presentation within my league. Interestingly, one of our presenters is no less than the renowned economist and educator Dr. Sixto K. Roxas.

During that time, he made a very interesting presentation that even my droopy eyes turned bright and attentive. Maybe because it was my first time to hear about the topic or plainly he has the charisma to glue people in their seats while he does his stuff on the platform. Believe it or not, his PowerPoint presentation was so logical and simplified that I was able to capture most of it during the documentation. I heard that this guy is also a certified techno junkie like me hahaha. What a point of comparison. Oh, by the way, he’s got long-hair too like me again. You should meet this guy. He’s amazing! Though we haven’t talked that much in private. Buts thats another blog entry someday.
Quite a few people can make it to where he is right now in his professional life. At his 80s and growing strong, how I’d wish to be like him when I reached that age (the age when people seem to be senile and retiring). Like him, I want to matter no matter what. Kudos to you sir!
